Anand Karaj translates to "Blissful Event", the union of two individuals around the Guru. The ceremony starts with the Bride and Groom, along with their parents, standing for an Ardaas (prayer).
One end of the Groom's palla (ceremonial scarf) is placed in the Bride's hand by her father. This symbolizes the Bride's father handing off his daughter for marriage, and the start of her new life with her husband.
The Laavan are four stanzas found in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. As each of the 4 Laavan are recited, the Bride and Groom walk around Guru Granth Sahib Ji, symbolizing the Guru is central to the couple's life.
